Abstract:
The serious consequences caused by multiple hazards to bridges bring more emphasis on the importance and necessity of research on multi-hazard bridge design, while the current bridge design criteria at home and abroad do not take the multiple hazards into consideration. This paper first reviewed the rising and development of multiple hazards theory in bridge design, as well as the problems on application and development. Many scholars have tried multi-hazard studies on two extreme loads for bridge design, including optimization theory for finding the optimal solution of the design, experimental verification for multi-hazard design of bridge component, vulnerability analysis using measured data, partly failure probability theory for load combination etc. Then, a few famous load combination methods for multiple hazards combination were introduced. Life-cycle theory for bridge design gets more and more attention, because it can consider multiple hazards issues in bridges’ life, which is the important way for multiple hazards bridge design in the future.
